Nick’s Faith Journey

Some time ago a man said to me, "Nick, you're a bottom-line kind of guy."  In very few words he summed-up my approach to life fairly accurately!  I'd like to share with you about a good decision I made that had a positive impact on my bottom line.

In my early twenties I was a very successful business man.  I had a very profitable, though not legal, large wholesale distribution business.  I was a drug dealer; one of the largest in the California’s San Fernando Valley.

I began to sense there had to be more to life than financial success.  God started bringing Christians

across my path who, with little more than their presence, caused my restlessness to grow.  These people seemed to have a deeper quality of life, something very good, something I wanted.

In those occasional encounters, they told me that God promises deep peace and joy, and that he promises

to give purpose to life.  I began wrestling with questions like, "Who am I really?", and "What really counts?"

After about three months of wrestling with those questions, I happened into a park early one evening

where I was surprised to find a man in a wheelchair on a stage; and there were about eight or nine other men standing behind him.  He had a microphone in his hand and was saying, "Now I know there is someone else out there who wants to trust Jesus to be in charge of his life."  I felt this was a pre-appointed meeting, an opportunity to add that deeper quality to my life about which I had become aware.

So when they prayed I did something which, to me, was meaningful and symbolic.  With my hands turned open, I

prayed, "God, I've been hearing a lot about your promises recently.  To the extent you're faithful to your

promises, to that extent you can have my life."

I immediately felt something different inside, and it felt good!  Later that evening I met a fella who gave me a Bible and told me where to start reading to see what God had promised for me.  I began reading it and testing God's faithfulness.

Well, that was on September 4, 1975, and God has been faithful to the promises he made in the scriptures

without fail!  As a result, I've gradually given him every part of my life. I now have that deep sense of peace and joy which he promises, the kind circumstances have no effect on.  Now I have a sense of purpose and a feeling of success in the areas of life that really count.

The bottom line is: God is faithful, and it was a good decision.  A favorite scripture verse of mine is Rev. 19:11 where it says that his name is The Faithful and True.  He has never let me down.  You can trust him too.
